I won, on my budget, this Nikon F4s Camera with lens Nikkor 50mm f1.8, but on the ebay website, the seller had put only two pictures of the camera to see, not very close up and clear, so some wear surfaces and points, was not appeared. Also the 50mm lens has a abnormal rocking in it and i don't know if it has influence on the photos.I believe that more detail pictures and description was necessary.I have to say also, that i liked the Multi-meter Finder excellent condition, the very clear inside battery Pack, the instruction manual and the Nikon neck strap.
Very pleased with this purchase. It took a while to get used to the fact that I couldn't review each shot and there is so much that you can do in post production with digital but I just love the nostalgic feel and the whole process of returning to film. Fitted with a DP20 viewfinder and MB21 battery grip, the F4s is easy to use. At present I have only used the camera in natural light but I aim to test it in studio lighting soon. For me, digital will be my choice for work but the F4s film camera will be my little pleasure!

In my opinion the Nikon F4 is the best camera ever created by nikon. It has a fantastic layout with analogue dials that give full control to the photographer. It is ultra tough and reliable. For me its layout and ease of use and features are better than those of the Nikon F5,F6 or F3. Obviously given modern standards its autofocus is slow, but for composition, landscape photography this camera is fantastic. Given the low prices at which nikon F4's are currently selling I would recommend it for analogue photography using film. It is a bit heavy for carrying around, and uses traditiona AA batteries that are easily available!
I like this model above all because you can buy individual parts when required, ie if the battery damages the grip you can get just that part, or the prism head is required due to damage you can rectify it without buying the whole camera. This model is the last in the NIKON line to have chunky controls, the F5 & F6 have buttons just like the digital cameras, buttons are easier to use under certain conditions.I have various models but the F4s has a feel only it can supply.
The Nikon F4s is a real blast from the past having been discontinued in the mid-nineties and replaced by the F5. The F4 was Nikons first real pro body with autofocussing and equipped with the MB21 winder became the F4s with 6 AA batteries under its belt and almost 6fps - which put it squarely in professional territory. Its a heavy beast and depending on what lens (It will accept all Nikkors from 1959 onwards) you attach can weigh well over 2.5kilos. Complimentary weight training courses came as standard! But it is also a very handsome beast having been worked on by Italian design house Giorgetto Guigiaro, better known for Supercar designs with Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. The camera is a delight to use being super responsive on the AF, but some critics think its a little on the slow side, but my own experiences were quite the opposite. Like most cameras the Nikon has an Idiot mode for quick snaps, so anyone can use it, though the aperture/shutter priority modes will bring more professional results, dependent on subject matter. As an occasional sports shooter, I was delighted with the results from an equestrian event, shot on Tri-X with shutter priority and making frequent use of the 6fps, I had many perfectly captured frames. I have long since disposed of my darkroom equipment and it took me a while to find someone who would process B&W film. I had the film scanned and put on disk - excellent. I dont imagine I will use the F4s that often but I will keep it ready for those occasional MSF ( Must Shoot Film)days. At todays givaway prices it is a great buy and there are many pristine examples to be found, still in their original boxes and barely used. But even a bruised and battered example at under $100 will still give years of reliable service. Pro owners were always a bit hard on camera bodies but they always made sure their tool was in top working condition!Read full review
