Budget 80's Manga movie, hand drawn cartoon with classic big eyed girls. The Japanese love to play on culture differences, the 80's style guitar riff sound track - American characters with big moustaches and lots of coffee - which is constantly being referred to - all emphasise Western Culture. The plot is paper thin, classic good v evil. Boy loves girl, robot falls in love with boy, boy loves robot - all good clean fun, with an evil madman in the background to complete the scene. There are some Star Wars influences at work, flying speeder bikes, scrolling titles etc... The transfer from film to video is not great, some colour inbalance and occasionally you can spot the frame moving up and down in the gate. Having said this, it was a good quality master copy and the DVD transfer is excellent. I can't rate this DVD at any more than average, but from a collectors viewpoint this is a classic example of a budget, made for tv, 80's manga movie. I enjoyed every moment.Read full review
A definite 80's B Movie if ever, there was such a thing in Anime. A great story line squeezed into 45 minutes, not the best artwork and a lack of a proper script leave this only suitable for complete anime nuts like myself. On the other hand, it can be bought for next to nothing on ebay and the kids would probably love it, girly robot n'all.
Fantastic (and largely incomprehensible) cheesy 80's tale of spacefaring folk, featuring mullets, enormous sparkly eyes, a yowling stadium-rock soundtrack and a coffee obsessive with a Freddie Mercury mustache. Oh and a robot woman who loves nature and kicks ass in equal measure. Fun, but rubbish. Highly recommended for anime fans nostalgic for 80's OAVs, anyone else should avoid.
I love anime films and wanted to see how they became what they are today. I loved this 80's example of the genre and as a child of the 80's found silly and amusing but most all it made me happy.
