I bought this turntable based on its technical specifications. In contrary to other internet’s reviews my unit came perfect: the bearings are tight and well adjusted, the motor is totally silent and rotates constantly and precisely at 33.34 RPM, the platter is well balanced and so plain that it is very hard to notice that it is turning, it seems to be unmoving. The turntable is well built , with very good quality materials and looks classy in a retro style way. The weakest point is the included capsule/stylus. Just consider that its a cheap capsule and that you should change it whenever it’s possible. It sounds opaque and almost boring. That was the only reason why it receives a 4star instead a 5star . But it was very ease to change it for an Ortofon Blue in a Ortofon Sh-4 shell. Just pay attention to adjust it precisely (alignment, weight and anti skating). The sound experience was totally different with the Ortofon Blue! It is amazing! I use it in conjunction with a Cambridge Solo phono stage + a Cambridge Audio Edge NQ preamp + a Cambridge Audio Edge W amp + Audio Monitor Gold 200 speakers. With this same setting it sounds better than that with my old Rega Planar 3... Definitely a very satisfying audio experience. Highly recommend! With an Ortofon Blue it’s definitely a 5 star hi fi turntable!Read full review

I upgraded to this turntable from a Project basic. I can't comment on the standard cartridge as I've never used it. I'm using the deck with a Sony amp and Wharfedale Jade 5. The turntable looks nice and feels good quality. Compared to the Project, the pitch stability is better because of the quartz locked motor. There is also a lower level of rumble. Compared to the Project turntable the Onkyo has a quality feel and is just nicer to use. The Ortofon 2M Blue works well with the turntable; it gives a clearer more detailed sound than the old deck with the OM10 cartridge. The low frequencies could do with a bit more emphasis, but that may be my personal taste. The removable headshell makes changing the cartridge easy, and therefore it is easy to upgrade by fitting better and better cartridges. I'm sure eventually with a very good cartridge you will find the shortcomings of the turntable. For the price it's a great piece of kit. I would recommend it strongly.Read full review
