The story started well. It featured Oscar Wilde put into prison. After being convicted he is taken from the court and taken to Wandsworth Prison. He has to put up with some terrible conditions, plus his own state of mind, then he meets the cruel and brutal prison warder Thomas Braddle. Then this man dies of heart failure, and he is transferred to Reading Prison. Then he meets the brother of Thomas Braddle, also a cruel and brutal prison warder (it runs in the family!). Soon afterwards he is killed (thrown from a great height). There are a number of suspects and he is asked to help in the investigation. However, the plot and story start to unravel. I got lost in the plot and the suspect was revealed too soon with a very feeble and weak red herring. I was disappointed with the book and sadly abandoned it half way through. This was a great shame - the earlier ones were very good and hopefully this was a one off. I leave it to the readers to read it and see what you think!Read full review

I love this Charles Brandeth series with Oscar Wilde. I’m just about to read the last one in the series at present. I hope he is doing more of them
