I bought this while I was midway through a 10-week adult learning course in multi-media. I'd started off by using the video facility on my digital camera, but quickly realised that had its limitations. The results from this are a huge improvement and it was very simple to learn to operate. When it first arrived I took a quick look at the manual and then stuck it on charge using the adapter that came with it. I also realised I'd need to make a trip to a well-known electrical retailer to buy a memory card - I actually could have made do with the one already in my camera, but then I probably would have forgotten to switch it back at some vital moment. So, all charged up and memory card installed, I then ran the accompanying CD-ROM to install some software onto my PC, which basically creates folders to catalogue the video I film and lets me create HD DVDs or something (I wasn't that interested to be honest, as I'd already got a high-end editing software installed, so doubt I'll use that bit, but you never know!). My first forays were deliberately set up as test runs. Hand held shots are obviously a bit jerky, but attaching my plate to the bottom and fixing it stably onto a tripod was great. That also freed me up to pan and zoom with more control, as I now had both hands available and could step away because you can press the record button and let go and it keeps filming. In the manual it spends an age explaining all the special features that you can set up if you want, but if you prefer you can pretty much use it straight away and then add them to your repertoire later. If you leave it switched on, but not filming, it switches itself off after a while to preserve battery life. Some of the bigger camcorders have more battery life and features, of course, but for my needs this will do nicely. I'm particularly impressed with the sound quality from the microphone, which I've already used to capture good clear audio then binned the unwanted visuals when I was editing afterwards.Read full review

This was purchased from Panasonic as a refurbished unit, hence the price of £120.00. It takes excellent video and stills in full HD and I have had no problems with it. However the software was a little tricky to download on to my XP running laptop. But having done that by using the old fashioned way of downloading the software now copies and is as easy as pie to use.
