Just in time for Angelina Jolie to portray a young Kay Scarpetta before she evolved into the steely, unflinching pathologist/court expert that she has been in the latest books about the fictional medical examiner by Patricia Cornwell, Cornwell has unleashed a pair of present-day novels about her alter-ego heroine: SCARPETTA (2008) and THE SCARPETTA FACTOR (2009) which effectively wind up the complex relationships among Scarpetta, her long-term beau, former FBI Profiler Benton Wesley, and long-suffering sidekick and former NYC cop Pete Marino. My own theory is that the excellent Scarpetta installments were penned during Cornwell's manic phases (she has recently spoken openly about Bipolar Affective Disorder in her self and ancestry) while the lesser Andy Brazil series were birthed during depressive periods.Read full review
