This is both sharper and smaller than the standard 14-42 Lumix zoom and has the advantage of power zoom and focus. The power features really make a difference when shooting video, you will never get the same smoothness zooming by hand. You can control the zoom speed from a menu setting. The only downside is that the light weight means construction is very plasticky and feels quite flimsy - the zoom barrel can be flexed between finger and thumb for example. It's not an issue in normal use but I don't think it would stand up to much of a bang, such as being dropped. But to get that kind of ruggedness you have to pay a lot more and get much heavier. You pays your money and you takes your choice... For me the light weight aces it and I just take extra care.

Good little lens this. My G5 came with a manual zooming 14-42 which was too bulky to allow the camera to fit in a roomy jacket pocket. This powerzoom 14-42 allows me to pop the lens and body into a jacket pocket and the lens, even when powered down, can be gripped and used to hold the camera. I'm not a pixel-peeper but the image quality, to my eye, is as good if not better than the manual zoom kit lens. I bought a pre-owned lens but it works perfectly with the G5 which is to be expected.

One of the finest lens

An excellent little lens which I purchased to replace the supplied 14 - 42 manual lens. It works well but I have found it a little fiddly when working the zoom controls. With this lens the camera really becomes "pocketable".
