I wanted a small M43 camera to fit in my pocket or on very lightweight trips in my rucsack so bought the GX1 and a 12-32mm mini zoom lens. At first I was very unhappy with the lens - which surprised me after the excellent reviews online. So I updated the firmware to the latest version, even though the unsharpness issue was not mentioned. For some reason, what appeared to be shutter shock blurring my images was resolved and the images are now sharp, surprisingly so. The camera feels lovely and has enough controls to satisfy this ex-professional photographer and the quality of the 16MP images is good enough for a double page spread, especially if you shoot raw - the jpeg engine does tend to blur foliage to some extent but the colours are good and the tonal range is fine. I have a small circular polarizer on the 12-32 and this works well at the longer ends of the range, reducing reflections and deepening saturation of grass, leaves etc. The quality is as good or better than I was getting with my old Leicas and Kodachrome so I'm happy enough not to have to carry a larger camera - and it feels good in my large hands.Read full review

When I first got this GX1 camera, it cost £350+ with the stock lens. I was impressed by the fact I got a DSLR-like camera cheap. The one thing I appreciate about this, is I can put really great lenses on it, and not get stopped for bringing in a pro camera into places where they are banned. I think establishments are cottoning onto the fact that mirrorless cameras, despite their compact size are just as good as DSLRs. Now, it's really cheap to buy one, so used so it's worth playing around with it unless you're willing to the latest GX7 or GX8 - or even better, the GH4. Well, now Sony's full frame camera may make me jump ship.

Micro four thirds at its best. I use it with a 12-32 zoom and it is small enough to slip in you pocket. Add the LVF2 viewfinder and it is almost the complete system camera you could ever want for.
