I got this DVD wanting to see this movie, as I was a fan of the title and the cast and the ambitious story. It is rather long, the story is not that accurate in relation to how Israel was formed, and there is something weird about seeing Paul Newman cast as a Israeli soldier, but the whole scope of the movie really harkened back to epics such as The Ten Commandments (1956) and Spartacus (1960), where there was no CGI and plenty of extras! There are some fabulous set pieces including the scenes on the boat, and great usage of the location's backdrop. It's nice to see something where it is clearly not shot on a studio, and uses the location of the subject matter at hand to good effect. There are problems with the movie, but I did enjoy watching it. 3.5/5

I had no idea that DVD’s had different areas and weren’t compatible with all DVD players. So even if the product mentioned an area I wouldn’t have understood. My friend and I were disappointed when we sat down to watch the movie and the DVD wouldn’t play.

Excellent film. Never got to see the end when It was shown at the cinema. Good for the cold long evenings in front of the fire.
