Bought as a present for my son who wants to make a start in N gauge modelling. This, together with the Track Plans book that comes with it, are an excellent way into the hobby.

I'm in the process of building a large layout in my 10ft x 6ft shed, but I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms because it's so big. So I decided to buy one of these 'starter sets' to make a simple 'tabletop' layout. I was pleasantly surprised by the set. Peco are one of the best-known brands in the model railway industry, so I expected at least reasonable quality. It's better than that. The set comes with enough track to make quite a large oval and with two points (turnouts) included, it also has enough track to add a couple of small sidings to provide more than just 'roundy-roundy' running. Power clips make it easy to set up and get trains running in very short order. The set even includes a pair of 'sleeper-built' buffer stops. Even more useful is the included track plans booklet which not only shows several different ways to use the included track, but also details how to expand it later. Only thing to improve it would have been a pack of track pins to hold the track down. All told, this is a great way to progress beyond the simple train-set.
