I bought this lens as an add on to my 35mm lens for a lightweight for taking landscapes but just that little closer cropped. The 2 lenses together mean I can just take the 2 with me and save carrying a lot of weight and in my opinion , get better quality results than with a kit zoom. The 50 mm is light with a plastic mount but still manages to feel like a strong durable lens. The auto focus isn't the quickest but I still find it fast enough for anything I"ve needed so far. It's also a good focal range for taking portraits and they have also turned out well with good colour rendition. All in all its a good walkabout lens to go with my Pentax K-70.

I own a few prime lenses including the classic Pentax SMC 50mm 1.7, and this betters it in every way optically. It's sharper, has no real problems with flare or ghosting, and the out of focus areas are better too. It is surprisingly well made. Don't be fooled by the plastic construction and plastic bayonet. It is well built and assembled using engineering grade plastics. The auto focus is rapid, and surprisingly quiet. I've read exaggerated claims from others about it being very noisy. Yo my ears it isn't! Understandably for a screw drive auto focus, it's not silent - but it cannot be described as noisy - and I'm a professional musician and semi-pro photographer. No regrets

I have been used to using big old Sigma f1.4’s built like tanks… so when I received this I thought it was a mistake! it looks a bit like a toy, and is very small compared to what I am used to. So I was not expecting much from it, but what a surprise! This little thing really kicks ass! Some CA at f1.8 around bright lights etc, gone by f2.2 a little soft also at f1.8 but very usable, and would not be noticeable on a print, sharp as you like by f3.5. I soon got used to the slightly noisy focus (it is only slight) used on my K-3 it really shines – very much recommended.

Paired with my k7 this is a great lens, lovely sharp images, the colour can be a bit bright but can be easily corrected in software, but for sharpness and depth of field its really good, very quiet and nice and light too. Lovely addition to any lens collection.

My Camera: Pentax K-S1 Knock at the door and the friendly postman handed it over to me. Initially the size of the box shocked me, looked like the box of a Gameboy SP. After ripping off the packaging (which was sturdy and secure.) I opened up the box and was met by a small lens, initially at first glance it looks like a toy lens. I removed my Sigma 70-300mm bulky lens I use for bird shoots and other things and fitted on this small but extremely light lens, weight difference was noticeable straight away. It auto focuses rather well, a tad noisy but that is something I can live with. Picture quality is superb, perfect for my uses of shooting pictures of the kittens and some light video work on my K-S1. For the price of £84.99 I can this a bargain, many shops sell this for £150+ A really decent lens overall.Read full review
