I bought this DVD with prior knowledge of how good an angler Mick Brown is from television and angling media. This is an excellent introduction to the handling and methods of catching pike on stillwaters.I bought this DVD for my brother who is about to start fishing for pike. Some of the tips given by Mick are well worth the money alone.
This DVD was a bit of a disappointment. It fell into the same format as the Fox Guide to Fishing DVD's and probably many others. A very brief overview of suitable rod and reel. Showing a few set ups, ledger and laying-on with a float. A section on baits with some ideas on presentation [popping up]. Most of it is watching Mick pull in fish and how to unhook. At the very start he mentions he has plumbed the pit but doesn't show you how to do it and why he is doing it? I would love to see a DVD that concentrated more on fish location i.e finding features below the surface as this probably influences what swims to fish; no point having great tackle, the best rigs and baits if there are no fish in the swim. More details of rigs and how to make them. The Fox guide did attemt to show this more than Mick's DVD but i couldn't make out any details, the camera was just a little too far away for my liking. I was hoping this DVD would cover things I didn't know. I have seen drifter floats but no rigs that you use for this type of fishing, What depth to fish at? Especially if the contours are changing! and the way the bait is hooked for drifter fishing as if i do it conventionally the bait will hang down un-naturally. Showing how to cut hooks out of a deep hooked fish and more of the unusual situations you can encounter and how to cope with them. There is nothing new in the DVD to make it stand out from the crowd and at just an hour or so long wasn't nearly long enough for the money if you were buying it. Sorry Mick - just an average run of the mill effort -shame!Read full review
Great DVD that covers all the aspects of dead bait fishing for pike. Anyone who decides to have a crack at dead baiting for pike or even those that have fished for pike with little success would do well to get this DVD. Sound, common sense methods that work explained in full detail by well known pike angler Mick Brown. Mick covers in good detail also how to safely and correctly unhook and look after pike on the bank.
mick brown IS the best pike fisherman around, this dvd is a early one of mikes but still shows off the way to fish, catch, and retern to the water saftly with out harm to himself and to the fish. Anyone who is starting up pike fishing should in my mind be guided by someone who knows everything about pike fishing. My only bug bear about the dvd is that the sound is quiet muffled at times but still worth watching.
Hi - Mick Brown here! Just like to point out to reviewers that this footage is about 15 years old. One of my very first appearances in front of the camera. I've made more than 100 films since and moved on! The info is miles out of date and I don't recommend most of what is shown in it nowadays. This product is nothing to do with me, I have no financial interest in it and I personally would not have agreed to it being shown as its so much out of date. Mick Brown
