If we believe the news then this will be the last REM album ever, that makes an absolute must have in its own right, there is some of the "accelerate" type pop rock on here, but it is altogether more thoughtful and introspective, the last track on the album with stipe and patti smith haunting through the speakers is mesmerising, stipe goes into a monologue that is close to hypnosis, truly enchanting. If you like the album "up" mixed with "new adventures in hifi" then this will be for you, it is classic and it is amazing how prolific REM have been on a very limited framework, there songs always sound different yet strangely familiar, Peter Buck's guitar work always adds a sense of recollection. Mike Mills is solid as ever and you can hear his bass sing on this one. Its fascinating. Interesting. Something other.Read full review
