My husband and I love a good English war movie, I guess because we were born in London before World War 2 so it brings back memories of those days. Also Kenneth More is a great actor and makes great movies. The condition of the DVD was excellent, like new.

Such a classic film that works very well in 16:9 format. If cropping was employed to get the fit, it was not obvious. Well worth watching, especially for anyone who does not know this true story.

This film is based on the true story of Douglas Bader, an English fighter ace during World War 2 who lost both his legs iin a horrific accident, but continued to fly with the help of a pair of prosthetic limbs, racking up a tally of 22 kills over the war. You'd think in the current year, this film would be feted as its protagonist is a disabled hero who fights the Nazis, but instead this classic has been almost forgotten about. A wonderful story with a fantastic cast and endearing characters.

My Father was in the RAF based at North Weald in Essex, he taught very young lads to fly and become Top Guns within only two weeks, that was of coarse impossible, 80 out of 100 trained pilots died, Dad was very unhappy about his impossible task but the War Office pushed on. Years later Hollywood came to the town of my birth, Gt Dunmow in Essex and wanted to make those war days into a Film, they asked Kenneth Moore and several other actors who agreed, the eventual outcome was this DVD Reach for the Sky. While taking off one day his co-pilot took a photo of a huge building called The Close he sent to my Mother;- THAT is where we should live he said, she moved from Sheffield and later I was born there. Years later, clearing up after my surviving Mothers death in Torquay Devon in Yr 2000, I recovered that photograph and my Dads handwriting, WHY did I buy this DVD? even Kenneth Moore looked like my Father and the events they all were taken through by Hitler were camera captured, the Dam Busters were an attachment. These events are very moving for me. Today I am a Dr of Psychology, they would be proud as I am of them.Read full review
The story of Douglas Bader and his determination to fly again after loosing his legs in a plane crash is entertaining, heroic and at times has a humerus twist. Played by Kenneth More. One of the best classic war films of all time about a great hero.
