The scoop of the shovel seems strong enough though I have not used it yet. The handle is wooden with most of it covered in plastic. However, where the wooden shaft meets the metal shovel there's a small part of the shaft that is unprotected. This would be a problem in time if it's not protected from water etc... A small artist brush and a water proof barrier paint would suffice to protect the bare wood prior to using the shovel.

This snow shovel is very lightweight, but very strong. I'm very pleased with it, and although I haven't needed to use it this year we normally get snow in February and March.
