This is the first collection of Red Hot Chili Pepper hits. Or, 'What Hits!? they ask, satirically, nodding towards their early and not quite successful years with EMI. The biggest hit on here, in fact, is the Gus Van Sant-directed 'Under the Bridge' which prompted Frusciante to leave, preferring the music to remain 'underground'. This top twenty hit is taken from their hugely successful album - 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic'. 'What Hits!?' DVD is essentially a 'greatest hits': what I call Vol. 1, before 'Blood Sugar ...' and beyond. Some good songs on here. Covers of Hendrix's 'Fire' and Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground'. 'Knock Me Down' and 'Taste the Pain' from 'Mother's Milk'. 'Behind the Sun' and 'Taste the Pain' from 'The Uplift Mofo Party Plan'. There is also a handful from 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers' and 'Freaky Styley'. Three bonus (live) tracks at the end complete the DVD. 'Stone Cold Bush'. 'Subway to Venus'. 'Special Secret Song'. This album reminds me of summer '97 and barbecues and beer on the beach at night under a full moon. Fireworks in the distance. Trail of silvery light from the moon across the ocean to the sand. This DVD has videos right from Behind the Sun to Under the Bridge. My personal fav being Show Me Your Soul. It includes some great songs, some great live footage...it has got a parental advisory label because it has some famous 'chili peppers only wearing socks scenes'(any fan will know what I mean by that!) and it is just an excellent DVD and one that any fan should own!!
