Ex verve frontman Richard Ashcroft's 2000 album is another testament to his excellent songwriting skills. Big songs, full of his usual symphonic melodies take you on a ride you probably wont forget. "A song for the lovers" isnt the be all and end all on this album - there are many other great songs to help balance out. "New York" and "Money to Burn" are good, upbeat tunes whereas "Brave New World" and "Slow Was My Heart" are more melodic. Every tune is great but the only way to find out is to listen to it yourself. How can you not like this guy, he must work like a trooper in the studio, backed up with some great production this album is a must for any Ashcroft admirers !
This Album is excellent brilliant to drive to, and Richard is very good singer and song writer, Reason i got this Album is because i had worn out the other one i had from when it was released. Its good to keep original copy of the Artist you like I think :)Would recommend to anyone who wants to Just chill out
I have been a music fan since the 60's and sometimes an artist comes along that trancends all trends, and stays with you forever. This debut solo album from Richard Ashcroft is one of those albums. Of course it got fairly good reviews on it's release, but sometime in the future, this will be seen as an absolute classic. Stunning and achingly beautiful.
This is Richard Ashcroft. Thats the difference and thats what makes this a fantastic album. No messing about it gets right in there and tickles yer soul. Powerful pumping tunes, haunting melodies and words that inspire. What an album!!!! Even better than the album?? Seeing the man live. Buy it, not because of Urban Hymns, but because this man is amazing.
