Mirror Blue represents some of the best of Richard Thompson during his soujourn at Capitol, whether it be the jolly rollicking MGB-GT or the biographical Beeswing. This album sits in the amalgum of folk, rock and jazz that Thompson is happy to dip into. Mixing virtuosa guitar with an excellent backing group (in particular Danny Thompson on bass), technique, words and music all come together in typically Thompson style. His ability to play around his words is evident on all these tracks. Other particularly strong tracks are 'Mingus Eyes', 'Easy there, Steady now' and 'Can't wake up to save my life' all with tunes that will stay with you after the record is finished. Strong stuff - recommended.
