Leonard Rossiter's Rigsby is a mean, conservative and old-fashioned opinionated scruff. He's in love with the winsome, lonely and lovelorn Miss Jones (Frances De La Tour) but she's got a thing for the young male students in the house, the long-haired naive but nubile Alan (Beckinsale) and new black tenant, the classy and refined Philip. Rigsby is shocked that Philip is black, and it brings out his naive racist prejudices--so Philip strings him along pretending to be an African prince. Meanwhile, Rigsby tries all the tricks in the book to woo his lovely lady tenant with candlelit suppers and theatrical displays of admiration--but it takes four great series for them to get engaged. Priceless British comedy
An ageless classic, the main characters don't just act, they eat, breath and live the part. Well written, laughs galore, moments of sadness, the 4 x series provide hours of "Top Notch" entertainment.

Rising Damp - The Complete Works
I've just finished watching the 'Complete Works'over the festive period, basically because Christmas TV is rubbish, and I had forgotten just how good this series was. Good comedy, can be predictable - it's all in the delivery - and 'Rising Damp'is predictable, but beautifully delivered by Leonard Rossiter and co. Here's a series set in one or two rooms, (or a garage - when Rigsby buys a sports car to impress Miss Jones) with three main characters, consistently providing situations,lines and ACTING, producing honest, good quality, laugh-to-minute ratio's. The only disappointment is the film of the series, made without the grubby, dimly-lit guest house and the absence of the late Richard Beckinsale is too readily apparent. I won't go into the racist jibes that proliferate the series - it ... This Collection Is A Must !!
Excellent, thats all i can say about the complete works of Rising Damp. Classic TV which has never lost it's flavour. Nice to watch something that does not contain foul language, but has you in fits of laughter from start to finish. I do not think Leonard Rossiter got the recognition he deserved, truely an amazing actor along with all his co-stars. I could recommend this DVD set to anyone, full of entertainment.
