I really love Rita Coolidge’s sweet singing voice. It is so gentle and relaxing! This is a lovely album, with all my favourites on it. i.e. We’re All Alone, Your Love Has Lifted Me Higher, I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight, I Don’t Want To Talk About It and Words. I have two of her original vinyl LP’s with these tracks on them but really wanted a CD as well and this ‘Collection’ is perfect, including other tracks which are a bonus and equally good. If you are a fan of Rita’s you must buy it, and if not, buy it anyway, as you won’t be disappointed!

I heard my favorite song by Rita Coolidge on the radio while driving recently, (I'd Rather Leave While I'm Alone) and it really sounded great. Her voice was beautiful in it and it fit the arrangement very nicely. The words are very good as well. I came home and decided to purchase a CD of her Greatest Hits and ordered Rita Coolidge The Collection. I played it in my car and the first two songs sounded great. The first was We're All Alone and the second was I'd Rather Leave While I'm Alone. I always loved both of her versions of those songs. Then I played the rest of the CD and it all came back to me why I never bought her albums when they came out. To put it as mildly as I can, the lady just could not sing. The more I listened to it, the more I had the feeling she was on heavy sleep medication when she recorded these songs. Even on the up tempo songs (if you can call them that) her voice seems like she's in some kind of trance. I took the CD out of my car and filed it where it will collect dust with so many cassette tapes and CD's I've kept over the years and are simply awful. Just to make sure, I went on Youtube and watched a few videos from years ago and some from recent times. My feelings were confirmed. She sounded pretty bad years ago, especially when she was live, and the ones from recent times are just horrible. She confirms the old adage that she couldn't carry a tune if it were in a bucket. So for what it's worth -- don't buy this CD. Because even though it's very cheap, it isn't worth it. Sorry Rita, you were a beautiful lady, but your voice was just bad.Read full review
