This dvd is fantastic its a much more modern interpretation of the classic Robin Hood story. The characters are extremely well played by some excellent actors.Keith Richards is great as the sheriff of Nottingham and Jonas Armstrong is the best Robin Hood we have had in years! The stories are witty and action filled and leave you eagerly anticipating the next instalment in this wonderfully wrote series. This is a wonderful dvd for all the family. It was enjoyed by children and adults alike. It is a must see for all members of the family and has left us huge Robin Hood fans !
My apologies to those who believe that this is the best Robin Hood series ever.....but, although I persevered through most of the 2nd series as well I just could not get to grips with this as a serious period piece. The historical inaccuracies are to numerous to list and the modern idiom scripting would frankly be more at home in a soap opera than an historical drama. If the intention was to produce a tongue in cheek, send up then perhaps this was a winner after all as the scripts seem to be an attempt to inject a Blackadder style of humour, particularly the use of a 'Baldrick' clone as the primary support role and appear to be targeted at a pre-teens audience although I believe that the original screening was mid-evening. If you are looking for a new retelling of the Robin Hood legends then you will be disapointed and should stick with the earlier Robin of Sherwood series, or previous television offerings from the seventies and eighties which has far more skill and traditional charm.Read full review
I bought this because at school my class have read the novel Robin Hood and i wanted them to watch a dvd which demonstrated a lot of what they had read in their books. The series uses very good props and demonstrates well what life was like at that time. The boys love watching it. I found it to be a very useful resource and am delighted to have bought it - it was very reasonably priced too!
Well folks the story lines are pants, the female cast look wrong, the language is way too modern and if it's filmed in England I am the queen of Sheba. However, having said all that - it's still great, everybody on board seems to be having a wonderful time, the action sequences are well done, the costumes are a really workable modern/mediaeval fusion and the character development and casting is cool. Keith Allen does a nice snarl and smarm as the Sheriff, Robin and Marion (a more feisty than usual gal) have a nice degree of sexual tension going on and of course there is the ever watchable Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne. It's not history but it IS great fun.
