This version of the comic opera The Barber of Seville by Rossini was recorded in 1988. A young Cecilia Bartoli is scintillating in the part of Rosina, a role which makes good use of her wonderful coluratura. Gino Quilico is a commanding Figaro, who captivates from his first, very famous, aria. All the soloists give good value and are supported by a most pleasing chorus and a world class orchestra. The production values are high throughout, and the sets and costumes are a joy. This is the production I would have loved to attend in person. The DVD is easy to navigate, unlike some opera DVDs I've bought in the past. All in all a brilliant package for opera fans everywhere. Buy it if you get the chance, it's one not to be missed.
