The Rotel rb-990bx sounds clearer and less strained than the b&k ex-440. Though both are rated at 200 wpc, the rotel some how sounds as if it has more power. But the rotel has a bent back, as if someone rested it on it's back. No other damage was seen. Excepting that if you put your ear close to the midrange, there is a faint buzz, a common characteristic of older power amps, my audio tech friend says. Nothing to worry about. Still, I'm happy with my purchase.

Have read a great deal how the right amplifier makes a world of difference, but when actually experience it first handI was still unprepared for the awesome improvement that happened. Music became richer, full of depth, and engulfs my living room. I'm using the amp to power my two front Polk LSi9 speakers. Before they were hooked up to Onkyo TX-RZ900, which was far less than optimal.

Excellent vintage amp. Great sound and value.

Great amp; very powerful, quiet, handles inefficient speakers easily, barely gets warm in normal operation.

As the owner since lower 1990's this thing is bulit like a tank, and I never had an issue with it, whether powering Cerin Vegas or Mrtin Logan or Definitive Techology. Super reliable and sweet sounded. You should see the transformer in this thing it's like 5 or 6 inches round.
