without doubt scream is one of th ebest modern day horrors in the true sense of the word. I believe a horror film should be a movie that COULD be true to live possible. Michael Myers couldnt die, freddy is in dreams, now these are both good movies, but the BEST in horror is the type that is POSSIBLY REAL. The ghostface character is a person, he CAN die, is not invincible, and is really on a killing spree.(Joyride is another great example) The uncut version is a MUST for horror fans. Dont be put off the box art being in japanese, there is no over dubbing, you can take off jap subtitles. This is the original version, contains the bloody parts and the knife slashing that was removed either for tv or just by the dumb sensors. Scream is geious for the genre, in every sense a must have for horror fans. Ok so it parodys other movies, but it does it MEANINGLY and does it so well it cannot be ignored. The parodys have purpose to the whole plot. 5 stars all the wayRead full review

A truely mind blasting thought. This is no Grudge, 28 days later, saw. This is not as *scary* of them. In my opinion THIS film is what you would call HORROR. It is a magnificent plot featuring scream, the masked killer on a murderous bloodbath. There are SO many suspects, during the film, little movements people make indicating they could be the killer, that makes it brilliant. It has sceanes that make you jump, but it is what I would call a TRUE film. The second I saw scream 1, I loged onto eBay to get 2 + 3 - ITS BRILLIANT! It's a horror film you can enjoy, but nothing that will stick in your mind so your afraid to look at the window or go outside. Want to find out who the killer is from the many suspects you see? GET SCREAM!
Critically acclaimed as the definite horror thriller of the `90s from Wes Craven, Scream will terrify you beyond belief! The residents of a picturesque small town are being victimised by a sly psycho with a twisted love for scary movies. As this masked predator continues to mimic horror films with real life acts of terror, it becomes clear that solving this mystery is going to be murder! An instant favourite with audiences for its unique style and humour, this chilling one-of-a-kind thriller will make you laugh until you scream.
With the smash hit Scream, novice screenwriter Kevin Williamson and veteran horror director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) revived the moldering corpse of the teen horror picture, both creatively and commercially, by playfully acknowledging the exhausted clichés and then turning them inside out. Scream is a postmodern slasher movie, a horror film that cleverly deconstructs horror films, then reassembles the dead tissue, and (like Frankenstein's monster) creates new life. When a serial killer starts hacking up their fellow teens, the media-savvy youngsters of Scream realize that the smartest way of sticking around for the sequel is to avoid the terminal behaviors that inevitably doom supporting players in the movies. They've seen all the movies, and the rules of the genre are like second nature to them. One of the scariest/funniest setups features a kid watching John Carpenter's seminal Halloween on video. As Jamie Lee Curtis is shadowed by Michael Meyers and the kid on the couch yells at her to turn around, Craven reverses his camera and we see that the kid should be taking his own advice. The fresh-faced young cast (including Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette) is fun to watch, and their tart dialogue is sprinkled with enough archly self-conscious pop-culture references to make Quentin Tarantino blush.Read full review
