It happens a few times in a lifetime when you hear a band that seriously alters your musical perception. something like ''After this, my (musical) life will never be the same again'', in a positive way. It happened to me in 2001 with 'Stupid Dream'' by Porcupine Tree, now in 2009 Sphongle has managed to cause a similar effect. What an amazing CD this is! It has an exotic Indian vibe all through, thanks to highly original samples taped on location, fantastic rhytms (''Electroplasm''), swirling synths, outerworldish flute play by Raja Ram, great female singers (remind me of Dido of Faithless fame), continuously exploring new territory in the spirit of aya(huasca). It's deeply emotional (get goosebumps listening to the hangdrums on ''Nothing is something worth doing'') or dive into the spiritual layers of ''I am you''. This CD has everything that makes music at times such an overwhelming experience. It is hard to catagorize as Sphongle has managed to create a whole new musical universe, which makes this album one of my favourite CD's of all time. The beautiful artwork, created by the people behind Pink Floyd, fully does Sphongle justice. Get Sphongled, but be aware that this CD may seriously alter your reality! Their first DVD (Sphongle Live - At the Roundhouse) shows that they're able to put up an incredible live performance as well. Hail Sphongle!Read full review
