Sitcom adaptations don't always work (George and Mildred, Dad's Army) and the first Steptoe film is another example. Hit and miss with the jokes and premise. Steptoe & Son Ride Again is an exception. For me, the film never fails to deliver. The cast, script and performances all good. Even the cameo by Diana Dors as the randy widow works. Frank Thornton, Yootha Joyce, Bill Maynard: they're all here. Harold's concussed graveyard 'zombie' performance steals it for me with Geoffrey Bayldon's hysterical vicar close runner up. Any fans of the TV series will lap it up...
