SWORD OF THE RAJ. BRITISH ARMY IN INDIA 1747-1947 Sikh Wars Sepoy Mutiny NWFP @c

SWORD OF THE RAJ

THE BRITISH ARMY IN INDIA,
1747-1947

ROGER BEAUMONT

THE BOBBS-MERRILL COMPANY, INC
1977

First edition.
This is the history of an army of incredible size and pageantry that, more than any other, gave the British Empire its reputation for pomp and glory. This mammoth organization protected the Empire's interests from the days of the East India Company until the British withdrew from India in 1947.

The world will never again see anything like it: men marching in columns three miles across and eight miles long; elephants drawing field cannon; horses and camels and bullocks by the hundreds of thousands passing by. Here are men of every conceivable color and creed, all of them citizens of the crown: Sikhs, Pathans, Punjabis and Gurkhas. Here, too, are the men who led them into battle: Clive of India, Lord Curzon, Kitchener, and George, Prince of Wales.

The campaigns, battles and regimental histories have been carefully researched and are vividly reconstructed in the full historical context in which the Indian Army was raised and fought.

Filled with numerous notes on organization, tactics, strength, uniforms and equipment, and strikingly illustrated with paintings and photographs that span two hundred years, Sword of the Raj is the complete recounting of a glory that is gone forever.

A military historian and contributor to numerous publications, from Military Affairs to The Nation, Roger Beaumont is professor of history at Texas A&M University.

Payment

PayPal is the preferred method of payment. If you are in the UK, please feel free to choose my other options. Cheques/Postal Orders. Pounds Sterling only. Please make cheques/postal orders with the item name and number, your name and address. Non UK buyers, I may accept other payment methods if you contact me before bidding, but other charges may apply.

Shipping

All books sent securely packaged, usually bubble wrapped and in a padded envelope or boxed.
I obtain Proof of Postage for all items sent via Royal Mail (From April 2013 compensation is reduced from £46 to £20 on standard 1st & 2nd Class and increased to £50 on signed for).

I work hard to keep the cost of shipping to a minimum whilst maintaining a high standard and do not profit from the shipping cost.
As a book buyer myself I always send books out as I would wish to receive them.

I am happy to combine shipping and for purchases of 3 or more books the savings can be substantial (more than the ebay discount shown). Please contact me for full details, providing your location and the items you are interested in for a quote; or just wait for the invoice and I will find the best options for you.
UK buyers please note Royal Mail changes introduced on 2/4/13 means it is often cheaper to send books separately (crazy but true)

If you have any other requirements please ask I will be happy to help (I want to sell my books). If you want to complain about the cost of stamps please contact the Royal Mail.

Terms of Sale

Payment within 7 days please, but if you contact me before hand I may be willing to wait longer.

If you buy more than one item please wait for the combined invoice so I can calculate the shipping discount.

Your satisfaction is guaranteed! All of my auctions have a 14 day return privilege. I try to describe and image my books as accurately as possible, you may return this item if it is not as described (as long as the item has not damaged in any way) and I will refund in full. Please contact me before returning. I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY WITH YOUR PURCHASE
