I would say this book is primarily an work on anthropology. Salt is the subtext. It explores much history and reveals some surprising facts, which will delight readers. Although written as (I would say) an historical documentation it does reveal the importance of sodium chloride as a mainstay of commerce. I was unhappy with the volume of spelling errors, missing words and poor sentence construction, but that's because I happen to be a pedant. Well worth the read however, particularly if you want some insight into how our economies developed. Also contains weird recipes!.
