Except from the slightly tattered box, the samsung i600 is in near pristine condition. I've always wanted another one having used one 10 years ago. Although I have to admit it's quite clunky to set up.

One of Samsung's latest 3G smarphones, the i600, is an excellent 'candybar' so to speak with a QWERTY keyboard and 2.3 high-quality color screen that will compare with latest Sony ericsson W960i. It also has the power of Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and more recently Windows Mobile 6, that gives a whole new meaning to accessing e-mail and the World Wide Web. Users will even have a separate Inbox for Hotmail messages on the device and link other e-mail accounts via Outlook Express. Instant messaging will view their buddy list and chant instantly with their contacts by downloading the latest Version Yahoo Go! 2.0. It is the first 3G smartphone with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) support for faster download speeds. Trust me using my O2 and Tmobile chips its unbelievable how pages load.It can also support podcasting (e.g Apple) and RSS Feeder. In addition to WiFi that enables you to 'tap and surf', it also supports the latest A2DP Bluetooth for audio streaming via headphones as well. The i600 has not just one, but two cameras! That's right, you can conduct 3G video calls with this guy, which could easily bring about a whole era of being seen and not heard. You can also hear stereo-quality music and view high quality video clips with Windows Media Player 10. Since the device has a Micro SD slot, you can store all your favorite videos and MP3s on an additional memory. Additional features include a speakerphone, built-in voice recognition, as well as support for a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera that even records video. I got to admit, I almost forgot that this guy is also a phone. If you look close on the QWERTY keyboard, you'll notice some of the keys highlighted so you dial. Of course, with all the databases in this guy, will you ever have to punch a number key again? An extra travel battery, back cover and charging pod is inclusive in the pack as well as so you never miss a call. I have to admit, the device looks slim (11.8mm, so I'm told), but it does seem a little wide. But hey, what can you expect for something that does all of this? At least it weighs a little under 100 grams. Samsung really did a good job on this one as it gives the likes Blackberry a good run when it comes to functionality. NB:Those looking to get this phone one piece of advise;get a UK registered phone as foreign handset will make it difficult to recieve further upgrades and softwares from Windows. You might have to flash the phone to convert it to UK or EU spec thats risky and can damage your phone.Read full review
I bought this because it was affordable and i really wanted a 3g phone which had wifi and internet and email capabilities. The orange build is a little annoying on Windows Mobile 5, but its reasonably simple to change to the latest version by using a wiki from Modaco (you install the non-brand wm5 firmware, then go to samsung for the upgrade to wm6 ** please note the firmware upgrade doesn't work on vista due to the way the serial drivers respond, you need to find an xp machine just to do the upgrade ** I find windows mobile nice to use, you have to expect that the battery wont last very long but for me it last longer than a palm treo which is a bonus - it typically lasts 1 -2 days before it needs a charge, but considering you can charge it from the mains or usb it doesn't really cause me a problem. Once upgraded to WM6 you can use it for internet connection sharing so you dont need to buy a separate 3g card, good if your on a internet package such as web and walk or similar. Overall i think its compact, lightweight and a very usable phone - i've even installed fring, and wifi and gsm sip client which appears to work okay :), the only disappointment is that there is no pocket office which i assumed existed on all windows mobile - they appear to want £50 for it, which is a bit cheeky - so for that reason I dont rate it excellent, but as a phone is good. So if your looking for a mobile replacement you might be disappointed with the battery life (although out of the box it does come with two batteries), but if your used to windows phones and you're looking for something smaller, lightweight with better batterlife then this might just be for you.Read full review
I bought this 'phone to replace a Nokia N96 as I could not get on with the Symbian operating system. I found the Samsung superior in ease of use for both telephony and internet connections (I connect to internet via WiFi and not WAP). The battery life is about the same when using for surfing but a plus point is that it comes with a spare battery as standard. Only minor quibbles: 1. The spare battery is of a different thickness so you have two separate backs to look after. 2, There is no included manual. Online there is a minimal 4 pager but the main one is a printer busting 175 pages. 3. A personal one. I had a 8gb micro SD card in my Nokia but the Samsung only reads cards up to 2gb max. My phone company (3 mobile) does not 'support' the phone but it works fine anyway. Improvements? I would like to sync with Lotus Organiser (which is why I bought the N96 in the first place).Read full review
Larger than the BlackBerry Curve, the phone runs Windows Mobile 5, but a heavily customised and stylised version. With Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity for web surfing, the only thing that really lets this model down is a confusing keyboard layout and 1.3 megapixel rather than 2 megapixel camera. But apart from that a very good mobile.
