I have been drooling over this TV some time now. So how does owning one live up to expectations? Well I wanted a TV that did it all. HDTV 1080P with lots of HDMI inputs, Play USB Divx/Mpeg/Jpeg/MP3 and do DLNA. I also thought that the internet add on features looked cool. Firstly I have to say that this is an excellent set. The criticisms I have with it could be considered a little picky. Good points The picture is brilliant – the dynamic contrast of 3 mil to one defiantly makes the picture brighter. The colours are vibrant and bright The EPG works well enough and is similar to my Humax PVR. It even can be timed to change channel when you set up an “alarm” for a particular show. The USB interface works well – plays most divx directly on screen with the benefit of no losses in analogue cables. This will play media of USB keys and my fat 32 formatted USB hard drive. So you can plug in a 1 TB drive full off music and video and have this on tap via your TV remote. Bad points The picture in picture only works on a HDMI source. This TV only has 1 tuner in it. The sound on the TV is a week. However if you are not an audio buff then you wont notice too much. If you are an audio freak then you will probably have a home cinema receiver anyway so this will not matter to you. The TV only has optical out on it. This means you will need an AV receiver that has an optical input. The optical output only sends out 2 channel audio if you play anything from USB or DNLA. This is kind of annoying for some one who bought this TV with DLNA in mind. The MP3 player has no random play DLNA – this TV will not fast-forward or rewind divx avi files. This is a major pain in the ass if you have encoded stuff with adverts in it. However mpeg 1 or 2 files seem to be ok it even plays my humax PVR files without a re encode – something I have not even been able to do on my PC!. You can however do this via the USB interface without any issues. I have tested this against DLNA servers windows media player 11 and twonky (pc version and my NAS box version). DLNA is slow - If you want something that does play media well then you are better off buying a play station 3. The picture in absolute black will bloom light from the corners of the screen. You only typically notice this between when fadeing from one scene to the next. Samsung will tell you that this is the best LCD TV for black levels. However it is still not as good as a pioneer plasma. The TV widgets are slow and its not something I use very much. On the UK version of this TV you don’t get access to any online video on demand services. Summery Cracking TV great picture quality and very slim. Media features could be better. If your major buying decision is based on it’s a TV’s media connectivity then you would be better off buying cheaper plasma and a playstation 3. On reflection i think that paying over 2 grand for the extra features may not be worth it but its definaly the best LED TV on the market today.Read full review
