A new room finally gave me the opportunity to create a decent home cinema setup but it came with the usual partner groans associated with a large screen TV so I had to find an alternative that would wow the missus but also fit the ‘large as possible’ essential TV criteria, and it’s a big WOW! Performance aside it’s just gorgeous there really isn't anything out there that can compete on looks. Because it has no bezel to speak of it looks smaller than 46 inch but when you’re watching it in a darkened room it floats magnificently away from the wall, it’s so thin you feel like it’ll slip into your wallet and make instant friends with the plastic that normally resides there. It’s a Smart TV so “you’ve got all the useless gadgets that no-one will use” that’s a direct quote from the missus before she realised that she could network it to the computer and play Adele continuously, have on demand Eastenders, Corrie etc (btw the iPlayer and YouTube is so good you think you're watching normal telly) and use apps like her phone. Anyhow back to performance, on the very little time that I’ve had the TV to myself it’s stunning (I’ve read many reports about how rubbish the sound is, I suppose that they must have been posted by concert musicians cos I rarely use more that 10% of full power and I get concerned for my neighbours when I go above that, and my house is detached). Picture quality in 2D and 3D is perfect, I could get technical now and talk about ghosting, shadows and blacks but I can't talk about something I've not experienced. I’ve never had any discomfort from the glasses at all (I wear glasses as well) although it is a pain having to take them off to go for another beer. My daughters bringing her new boyfriend round this weekend, he’s been boasting about his 3D TV, she can’t wait to see his jaw drop when he sees the Samsung. I’m pleased for her actually he seems a nice lad and apparently he has a copy of Avatar in 3D, it’s really nice when your daughters boyfriend becomes your best friend, overnight. One criticism, the Web Browser is useless without a keypad.Read full review
A couple of pointers: The TV's built in WiFi module has a very poor range and quite often will not detect our N spec wireless router even though all of our other devices are able to connect from further distances away. If you're not watching either in HD or Blu-Ray then the picture quality is average - at best! I'm puzzled at an rrp of £1700.00 for this TV. Great for watching in 3D mode, Skype TV camera facility is fantastic although the TV camera costs £120.00 to buy as an accessory. Samsung should of had it built in rather than trying to squezze more money out of people. Aesthetically looks fantastic, cannot fault the design. Build quality is average though.
A Very good smart tv.
