Always loved this album - a seminal early 80s album that stands the test of time exceptionally well! Normally I'm cynical of the value of remastering, but the original is a bit shoddy and this definitely transforms the quality

I bought this album on its release in 1983 on vinyl, and then again a few years later on CD, and now the 25th anniversary edition. I've heard some comments that the remastered sound takes something away from the original, but I need to sit down and play both before making any such comment myself. Apart from what has to be a classic album of great songs that still stand the test of time, it has a bonus CD with an unreleased version of the debut single 'In Shreds' which rates as just about my all time favourite single by any band anywhere. There is also a bunch of live tracks from a show in Berlin, which on first listen don't appear to be mixed that well, but I'l reserve judgement again until I sit down and listen properly. Anyone who is curious about The Chameleons should check this out, and also their following albums, 'what does anything mean, basically?' (1985) and 'Strange Times' (1986), including the more recent 'why call it anything', the 2001 release resulting from the band reforming. Interestingly, since the band split in 1987, there have been many more posthumous albums released, containing live recordings, sessions and alternative versions - all very interesting, but for me it's the first two albums that stand out as brilliant recordings by a band that influenced many other bands and should have been filling stadiums around the globe themselves. I would put this band forward as the best band i have ever heard and seen live. There are no other bands which come close to producing music of this calibre. A very long way second would be U2 I love every recording they have ever done, but script of the bridge will always be my favorite. I followed the band from the early days and watched them live as much as much as i possibly could. They never did go for the big rock band record producers scams, and therefore, are not known as well as other superficial and manufactured groups. I love them just the way they are, and they will always have a dedicated fan following. Which is still growing. I really hope they get back together and play in and around manchester again Denise
