Worth buying for 'Closing Time' alone. The rest is just icing on the cake.

I decided to buy this album once more but this time on CD. I previously owned this album on tape and thoroughly enjoyed it back then! This album can be described, without a doubt, as awesome! Nearly every track I now know and love, if there is a failure on this album it is track 10 but even that one gets through without too much tearing of the fabric of the whole thing. The album for the most part is upbeat and really gets you singing along with it once you have learned the words, in fact I found myself trying to sing the songs even when I didn't know the words! lol . The opening song, closing time, is a beauty and from there on in it just gets better (with the exception of the song I mentioned). The hit single on the album, secret smile, is nowhere near the best song on the album and in my opinion a far classier song could have been released as a single as there are many to choose from. Even so, Secret Smile is a song to cherish too, it is a sombre song with an important message being broadcast in my opinion, but that is personal interpretation and other listeners may find that the song is telling a different story for them. All in all a fantastic album and well worth shelling out a few pound to purchase it!Read full review
I bought this album way back in 1999, I went into woolworths to buy Travis the man who which I had heard three songs off the album and liked and saw this album and was torn between which one to get. I thought I was going to plunge for Travis as I had only heard Secret smile at the time but finally after about ten minutes trying to decide I chose to buy them both and was quite suprised to find i hardly played the Travis album as I found it a little depressing but this one was hardly ever out of my cd player. In fact I played the album so much because I love every track especially closing time that I actually wore the cd out so recently had to replace it by buying one off ebay but I still play the album to this day and still love it as much now as I did then, truly and honestly one of my favourite albums out of a large collection, well worth a listen.Read full review
Every single track on the album is a classic, i sometimes skip an album when i put it on but this one i just can't. It has to go down as one of the greatest albums of the last decade. Classic tracks are the obvious secret smile but singing in my sleep and Completely please are awesome but it would be harsh to single out tracks as it's absolutely flawless!!!! Dale
