Great piece of kit from Sennheiser. Sound is fantastic, I'm no audiophile but it meets my needs. TV, Playstation 3 and Blu-ray sound fantastic through these headphones. No hissing, no wires and no disrupting my little boy sleeping in the next room. The Bass boost is lovely, the surround sound is okay. They are also so comfortable to wear, after a while I don't even notice I am wearing them. I'll admit the headphone buttons are a bit small. But you get used to it and can work out what you're trying to tweak without having to remove the headphones first. They work fantastically, when I'm doing chores around the flat or I've got the washing/dishwasher running in my kitchen/living room area. I don't miss a single sound. They even allow me to listen clearly to my TV/Playstation/Blu-ray when my idiot neighbour's are playing loud music. I even picked up a second pair of Sennheiser HDR 160 headphones, for my wife. Even though I can't use them to charge on the cradle. I just charge up the HDR 170 headphones and then swap the batteries out with the HDR 160s, so I've got a fully charged rotation of the batteries. They were a little tricky to pair up, but once it's done that's it. Here's a video on how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brFXknPUjPc I even noticed that although the HDR 160s do not have a dedicated Surround sound and Bass Boost button on the headset. You can still turn these features on for the HDR 160s, by pressing the buttons on the RS170 transmitter. Saves you having to buy another HDR 170, just to have the dedicated buttons on the headphones.Read full review
So my pair of Sennheiser RS 120 had seen a better day so i started searching for another pair. Did my research and decided on the RS 170. Am i happy? In the main yes. There is one thing that does irratate me however. With my previous RS model if you switched off your headset, say to go answer the door, the base unit stayed on standby so when you switch the headset back on the base unit would then be active, therefore you can carry on listening to your music/tv. With the RS 170 when you turn off your headset, within about 5 mins the base unit switches off so when you want to use the headphones again you have to switch the base unit back on again as well. This may not bother you, fair enough, but it irrates me somewhat.
I've only had these for a short while and tried them just once but they were comfortable, lightweight and the whole build quality was what I was expecting from a Sennheiser product. The included instructions are a bit naff with use of logos so I was glad to download the full instructions and read them. I've had a wired pain of Sennheisers for many years and knew they sounded good but these sounded excellent given their wireless design. I look forward to some indulgent hours listening to music that I like that others don't!. I would also argue that these will hold their value quite well making them a good investment. you can even get replacement earpads at low cost so they will stay comfortable for years. Easy to recommend to anyone prepared to pass on the cheap route of buying the low quality bluetooth sets marketed heavily.Read full review
