Great concept for a film, very entertaining if you're familiar with the original Nosferatu film

shadow of the vampire is a revisionist fantasy about the making of the classic 1922 silent horror 'nosferatu ,eine Symphonie des Grauens ' (nosferatu - a symphony of horror), with an intrigueing premise that max schreck was an actual vampire playing the part of a method actor playing the part of a vampire. any film that throws john malkovic , willem dafoe and eddie izzard together is going to be interesting and this film is a gem. malkovic portrays the 'perfectionist auteur' film director murnau who willingly places his cast and crew in danger at the hands of 'schreck' to realise his vision of bringing absolute horror to the screen. willem dafoe is magnificent (and unrecognisable) as the haunted , wretched creature satifying his blood lust on set and won an oscar nomination for his turn bringing humour and pathos to the vampire come schreck come vampire. as the body count rises , the viewer is left to ponder who is the biggest monster , murnau or schreck , the driven director at various points , shouting down the 'undead' to complete his project at all costs. the compliance of screck to murnau's wishes is only bought by the director offering the neck of the leading lady (gert schroeder) in the final scene. this scene leaves a lasting impression on the viewer as schroeder really does sacrifice herself for her art . this is where the film moves from black comedy to geniune horror and poigniancy. standout scenes in shadow of the vampire are murnau's maniacal calling out to the actors while filming , directing their performances and 'motivation'. here we see vividly that a perfectionist is a more savage beast than a nosferatu. the confrontations between malkovic and dafoe are blistering too as both antagonists impose their will upon each other to reach their nefarius ends. eddie izzard is hilarious as the 'bad actor' having to put up with an appaling and diabolical co -star in the form of schreck. this is willem dafoe's movie however. watch the original then watch this , they improve the appreciation of each other . although shadow of the vampire is a noble horror, independently, itself.Read full review
I love this film, I've watched it a hundred times over and I never tire of it. The film is so dark and twisted - the story of the filming of a vampire film but unbeknown to the film crew actually starring a real vampire. Its pure genius and a must see. Has an amazing cast of people!
Yeah, it's great, will you please remove the annoying prompt from my "my ebay" screen now? Why are you being so mandatory, ebay? It's like I don't know you any more. You've changed. You never used to make demands of me. I don't love you anymore.
