Shed Seven pull their first studio album out in 1994 and hit the indie reviews with aplomb. This album gives an insight of what is to follow over the next few years, catchy indie hits one after another. The high points of Let it ride are the chart entries of Speakeasy, Dolphin, Casino Girl/Mark and Ocean Pie, but this not all Let it ride has to offer to the fan. Some of the better unknown ones like Dirty Soul and on an island with you show the rawness of a band and its first recording spell, and for any fan this is a must have in their collection. Rick Witter's voice has an immature (this is not a bad thing!) sound to it compared to now but Paul Banks on lead guitar is still in a different class! He has gone on to become even better live. Following from that the band is a must for a live gig and the album gives you that feeling, so if you get the chance to see them, go for it you will not be let down. Best = Dolphin, would be a hit today! Worst = Missing out, not missing anything! All in all a great debut album, and the difficult second, A Maximum High did not disappoint, but that is another story... Rob TaylorRead full review
I love this album - a must have! Just seen them on tour. One of the best bands to come out of the 90's brit pop scene.
