I've been working as a portrait photographer for a while and the Canon L-Series 70-200 2.8 Is always my go to lens. I wanted to find a good alternative to replace the Canon lens, so I started doing research on the Sigma and Tamaron. For studio setups this lens will do just fine. You can see a bit of color fringing in the highlights, but not enough to make the image unusable. The other thing I have to comment on is a lack of image stabilization, which in low light situations makes all the difference. That, in my opinion, is a fairly good reason to save up for the Canon. Another thing that you should be aware of is at 2.8 there is a heavy amount of vignetting. Personally, thats not an issue, but it is something you should know. All in all, if you shoot in a studio or have ample light for your shoots, this lens is quite the deal. It is very sharp at 2.8, lens operation is very smooth and the build quality is pretty solid. So, if you're trying to find a longer lens on a budget, I'd highly recommend the sigma. But! If you're in a position to afford the L-Series, than I'd suggest going with Canon.Read full review
