What is truly magical on Silent Alarm is how it astutely grafts the accoutrements of wiry post-punk austerity to pop hooks fortified with soulful melodic intent. It's a post-punk mishmash of angular guitars, pulsating bass, and tricky time signatures. Cd is stellar. Dvd is great.
Imagine that a record was an airline. An airline that took you to a certain destination. In most cases, airlines are designed to take you from one destination to another via the quickest, most economic route. For example we look at Razorlight's Up All Night, it's in the league of Ryanair, a cheap, accessible airline for all the people wanting a quick fix and as soon as they can get it. Silent Alarm however, is in a league of it's own. It's the kind of airline, that prepares you for flight with some pre-flight entertainment, the drinks are free, and the air hostesses are jaw-droppingly beautiful. This is no ordinary flight, this is not running on a cheap budget, this is something else. Unlike any other airline, you aren't going to a specific place, you are going on a journey through many different time zones, battling jet lag, seeing many different places all over the world, it's a lifetime changing experience. All for the same price as a budget airline. It's perfect. Most debut albums are usually the bands very finest work. No exceptions here then. Bloc Party, make the debut look like a piece of piss. It's all angular guitar riffs, moving in and out of various time signatures and providing the listener with an escape to another realm. The lyrics, the guitars, the drums and the bass all working together in perfect harmony. Silent Alarm is the best debut album to be released in years, and will be for years to come. 5 out of 5 10 out of 10 100 out of 100 Tell you what though it is flipping perfect!Read full review
Like every other Bloc Party album, Silent Alarm is amazing, actually that's definitely an understatement. I love this CD. The bonus tracks, Little Thoughts and Two More Years, are awesome.
Excellent Album with 15 songs unlike others albums with only half the amount. On this Album you have the classic song 2 more years which was my main reason for buying it. After listening to the album all the way through i can truely say theres not a song on the album i dont like. I would recommend this album as Bloc Party sound very different from other bands in a good way and the album is great.
i wanted a copy of this albumn as i liked the singles. It was cheaper than in the shop. The albumn is excellent and gets played on long journeys
