This stand is exactly what you would expect considering its sub-£20 price. That's not to say it's poor...it does the job to an extent quite well, if a little bit fiddly. My quandary prior to purchase was whether to spend £200 or so on a bench drill complete or a cheap stand such as this and I wasn't at all sure I'd get the use out of it to warrant the price so I couldn't justify the higher spend. The base is, unlike some other clones of this stand, actually made from cast iron, not aluminium, and is therefore reasonably solid but clamps are definitely recommended by yours truly. Overall I'm relatively happy with this stand. One thing it has highlighted is the complete lack of torque on my ancient mains B&D drill. My newer DW cordless drills are so much better but don't fit so until I decide whether to replace the gutless one I shall use it, in the stand, just for wood - not metal.Read full review

If you drill a hole then lift the drill to maybe follow with a tap or another drill, it doesn't realign it, it can be 3mm away from the first hole. No use at all for precision work.

This drill stand will be adequate for most DIY drilling needs, but if you want high precision go for a proper stand drill. The pillar is thin walled Chromium plated steel, and the body is thinnish aluminium. Consequently, as someone else said, there can be about 2 mm of sidewise play, so care is needed. The base is substantial cast iron, and takes a drill vice (to hold the workpiece)- which you will need. However, it fits my drill perfectly and for the price is good value.

I've not actually used the drill stand yet but it all went together easily enough and my electric drill fitted nice and tightly. I bought it because of it being "Silverline" and I've not yet been disappointed by anything that I've bought of their brand. I am only a hobby DIYer so it won't be getting industrial type usage.

All the other drill stands I looked at were more than twice the price of this so I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing it. There was no need to worry as it performed really well drilling holes into hardwood slats for garden seats. As a drill stand for a DIY user there is no need to buy more expensive stands.
