The 'Silverline' bench metalwork is good, BUT the two bench worktops are made of compressed MDF fibreboard, which is rubbish quality for any serious work. On delivery, I simply washed the tops down with soapy water to remove manufacturing smears and to my horror could immediately see the MDF veneer starting to lift-off around the clamp-fixture holes. NOT IMPRESSED! You get what you pay for here, it's cheap ... my previous old workbench (Black&Decker-circa1987), which is now too heavy for me to use, had worktops made with 0.75inch marine plywood which are solid and robust, I recommend you pay the extra and find a bench without an MDF fibreboard worktop.

As a DIY/Handyman for others I bought this more for a table to put things on at a reasonable height, than as a workhorse. My B&D workmate was so much sturdier (and whoever has still got it... please return it!) but so much heavier. This will do what I want and the top will help with other tasks but don't expect it to be anything other that for the DIYer. That said, it seems quite sturdy and is definitiely very easy to carry. No instructions enclosed to put it together but it is quite straightforward so long as you note that some of the bolts are slightly longer than others and have their place to go and the Nyloc nut, similarly. For the money (£20) it's excellent value.

It is well made but not as cheap as the Aldi one, but there again it has the flip capability. The spanner supplied was difficult to use on the side bolts. I used a heftier one from my kit. Not recommended in wet conditions as the wood is a compound composition! Overall pleased with the product. Delivered promptly.

The bench was relatively easy to assemble, although the instructions were poor. It feels slightly rickety and you need to ensure the legs are locked firmly. The table top movement is imprecise but once tightened on something it’s ok. Overall, not nearly as good as something like black and decker but much cheaper. Itwill be ok for occasional DIY use.
