Live view viewfinder ensures you get exposures right first time. LCD viewfinder is same size as a full-frame camera, so a much better experience than peering down the tunnel on a Canon or Nikon APS-C camera. LCD viewfinder also means you can review images or change menu settings without taking camera away from your eye. 10fps shooting with autofocus is a great feature Articulated screen is useful, and also helps you avoid checking every shot if you fold it away. And you don't need to check every shot as the LCD viewfinder gives you a perfect representation of what it will look like. Wide range of second hand Sony or Minolta AF lenses available on ebay - but best to stick with the more recent lenses that were designed for digital sensors and have the 8-contacts for the 'flash-metering assist via focus distance encoder' feature. Downsides are Auto ISO only goes to 1600. and zooming in/out when reviewing images by pressing buttons is a bit ponderous compared to the rotary dial on my other camera.Read full review

Although a bit heavier that an A55 model, It has useful features for the amateur photographer (grid lines, level indicator, histogram for example and more). Settings are in a logical menu with not too many embedded levels and shortcuts are available through the Fn button and on the scroll wheel on the back of the camera. The batteries last for a reasonable length of time (unlike the A55) and the EVF seems to work well. An all round easy to use DSLR producing good quality photos.

OK, so let me raise my hand here and say that I am not a fan of electronic viewfinders! OK but I am a fan of Sony, their image quality and product build for a semi-pro camera is hard to beat at this price point. In fact the camera that succeeds it, the A68 has won The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) award for 2016 for Best DSLR - Entry Level. Having said that I don't like the electronic viewfinder, it is one of the best examples you can currently get. The additional information it gives like the camera status and the artificial horizon are great and more so in that you can switch them off if you don't like it. So then for most people the Sony SLT cameras are a great choice, this one the A65 and it's replacement the A68 are terrific. I personally need to get to love the electronic viewfinder and as they are more likely to become the norm in the next few years I suppose I need to grin and bear it. Having said all that this camera was a great S/H purchase and I would recommend it to anybody wanting to make the step up to a high quality DSLR.Read full review

I love this camera. The translucent mirror makes up for the real view-finder that I would have preferred. Shutter action is fast and silent; great for taking close up candid shots. The supplied manual is not very helpful (none are today, they tell you nothing) but the online version answered all my needs. All the lenses purchased for my previous Minolta and Sony (have two now) cameras work well so I saved lots of money not having to buy another camera. The camera saves a bit of weight on previous models, which as a disabled person suits me well. Anyone who knows a DSLR will know this one and will soon have it working to suit their needs. The tilting-rotating screen is a boon for low and high-level shots. I have the camera set up to suit my working methods and I do not have to think "which button" before I shoot. If a change is required, everything comes to the fingers within easy reach and logical order at eye level. Battery use is good. I can shoot hundreds of RAW+JPEG images on one full battery. Images edited at 48-bits are brilliant with excellent colour rendition and line resolution. Mono images look good also. Skin tones rendered well.Read full review
Got this for my daughter who already owns a Sony alpha290 which she has had for 9 years and has been faultless, she wanted another camera so she does not have to change lenses all the time, so seen this Sony which also has 24 mmp rather than the 10.5 mmp on her 290, this camera is still quality like her other one great images great value
