The title says it all. Unlike the typical CD player, the drawer opens, you remove a precision weight, put in the disc and add that balancing weight above it.Perfect balance. The optical reader is within the drawer mechanism itself.

I had the normal one but now I have the UK Special Edition version and the best thing for me is the Filter options, the first setting is Standard which is tuned to UK sound by Japanese engineers, setting to is similar to the Wadia and Pioneer Legato link sound, I like this for Orchestral music and jazz, setting 3 is great for Rock and pop music and the 4th setting is Analogue, very smooth, These are not tone controls they give you a bespoke option to match the sound you like to hear with your existing amps and speakers.it also has a very solid fixed head laser with the Puck clamp and with 2 digital outputs of coaxial & optical, ideal for using as a great reliable transport to a quality DAC if you so desire. If you can find one buy as its a superb Audiophile build and Quality machine that you just don't get anymoreRead full review

I bought this with the hope that I could play some of my scratched cds without them skipping. It is much better than my nad. The sound quality is superb, and for a 20+ year old player it's amazing. The cd drawer is silent and smooth display still bright . If you can find one in good condition, I would highly recommend.

I've owned one of these for a short amount of time, but am basically blown away by it. You know it's going to be good when you buy one - it weighs a HUGE amount, and there doesn't seem to be any expense spared in building them. I can't say for sure about whether the stabiliser (which you sit on top of the CD before closing the drawer) makes any real difference in itself. I'm also not 100% convinced about the 'switchable digital filter' that is to the bottom left of the unit. All I know is that this is a LOT better a player than you can pick up for under £150 these days, and is seriously built to last. Just make sure you pair it up to a quality amp and speakers, and you'll be confident you've bought a superb player. Don't expect it to shine when rigged up to sub-par components because you may struggle to hear some of the extra detail that a unit such as this can provide. Personally I actually listen mainly though headphones, using QED interconnects and a vacuum tube amplifier. Sonic Bliss :)Read full review
