I bought this as I had previously had an older version. The only issue is it is a little slow at start up in comparison to the older model this is improved with updating the firmware a little!

Buying a Sony new from a retailer is expensive, but equally I have had poor experiences of buying less expensive products new and them failing just when they are out of guarantee. So I did want Sony reliability but didn't want to pay 'full' price. By buying this up to date model I got all the functionality that I need - 425 hrs record time on HD before having to copy off to DVD - but pay much less than buying new. Came complete in original box and wrappings, etc. What I do not get is the dealer guarantee so I take the risk on how long it lasts, however it being a Sony I believe this is a worthwhile risk for the money saving. So far (about 3 months) it has performed great and I have no complaints, so fingers crossed! I do like the ease of set-up and use, program recording guide, menus, etc. Like the ability to tune/connect the handset to enable it to control volume and program selcetion on the TV from the DVD handset, and this is easily set-up as you just select the manaufacturer of your TV and push the button. Then you can control your TV through the DVD handset. Also matches my telly in all black! No dislikes so far - except maybe the usual program change 'lag' that they all seem to have (if you program select up or down quickly through a few channels it takes a few seconds to catch up (picky picky!). Anyway hope this helps a little in your selection. Good luck.Read full review
Only had it a couple weeks now but so far so good. We had a similar Sony model for the past 15 years or so but it finally gave up the ghost, guess it was just old age. If this one lasts a fraction of time of the previous one it wiill have done well. Trouble now it is getting harder to accquire a new or reconnditioned model at all as it is not what people want but such is life.

A good middle of the road prodeuct. It it relatively easy to set up and use. It has sensible features but a drawback is that it is not possible to record to a DVD from the hard disc and vice versa. The picture quality is good and very stable. The Panasonic version of this recorder seems to offer extra features.
Setting it up is easy. Use of the controls, program selections, DVD usage is good. Like the design and the different things it can do for storing info on the HD and DVDs. A great DVD recorder for me.
