These are good compact DAB radios that retail new at about £49.99 but I have bought two reconditioned models for between £33 and £35. The last one from a Supermarket direct shop as they offered a full year warranty. The volume is adequate but this is not a ghetto blaster! Good features, presets, display etc. I orginally bought one to replace a trusty Sony FM pocket radio that I use when I go fishing. For that purpose these are useless as they really need to be mains run. 4 x AA batteries last about 4 hours whilst the old FM radio would run for at least a years use (say 300 hours) on the same number of batteries. If you have mains available then I rate it good for clarity, tone etc. battery consumption is a general problem with digital I find.
I bought this radio because I wanted access to the increased choice of stations on DAB. This radio is typical of what I would expect of Sony in terms of high quality. I like the volume control being a dial rather than stepped changes in volume. I like having the stereo headphone jack which allows me to play the radio through my hi-fi when needed. I dislike the very high power consumption when used in battery mode. From my research all DAB radios have higher power consumption. You need to research very carefully what features are most important to you as no one set seems to combine everything. As far as I can tell this set seems to offer good value in terms of all round quality.
Loads of stations available and it's reasonably priced for a good DAB radio. I like my brands and having a 'Sony' looks good in my kitchen. My only drip is that the volume isn't that loud on full blast, that's hardly unexpected due to its small size. Don't buy for your 70+ Nanna though as it isn't that easy to use; it's operation could be simplified.
Very solidly built DAB radio with excellent design features that gives the impression of quality. The performance is excellent for a small radio, with clear crisp sound on DAB and FM. This product represents top value considering the price, and is probably the best buy in this price range. LIKES, Build Quality, compact design and performance, Sony reliability DISLIKES, Not much, except it is easy to touch the sesitive controls on the top whilst moving the radio, thereby altering the settings, also the narrowness of the design makes it easy to knock over.
This radio looks smart because it has a good quality metal casing. It's easy to tune and sounds as clear as a bell. Has the economy of working from the mains (nice long cable)and taking ordinary alkaline batteries for portable use. A great little sound machine.
