Outstanding boxed set. After a successful stage production, Richard Rogers (score) and Oscar Hammerstein (lyrics) put onto the big screen one of the most moving productions of the big-musical era. It was fabulously set, and the orchestral soundtrack lifts the film into the best-of-all-time-greats category. You don't watch it for the acting, which is often not good. This was honed in their next blockbuster, The King and I. But you turn up the volume and let those magnificent orchestral arrangements carry you off to a tropical paradise. Haunting, moving and beautiful to watch, it shows its age only in the innocence of its message and the respectful demeanour of those taking part. Loved it, and the bonus tracks on the DVD gives all the background you need. Having the music on a separate CD ices the cake. Sit the kids down and watch it with them. HGRead full review
my video player has broken and South Pacific is one of my favorite films so the only way to watch is on dvd and i have 3 dvd players
Included with the DVD was a CD of the film which was perfectly satisfacory. The DVD was satisfactory except for some slight freezing of picture & a jump, but as it was a copy of the original movie it is understandable. It did not detract from my enjoyment of the film. I decided to buy it as I loved the film & it is an all time favourite of my film musicals. The songs will stay in the memory forever.
ONE OF THE BEST MUSICALS OF ALL TIME AND DEFINETLY NO SMUT IN IT A WORTH WHILE ADDITION TO ANY ONES COLLECTION.
I saw the film no less than 152 times as a young man. Need I say more!!! A film not to be missed by all musical lovers. The voice overs are Excellent even if you know which they are.
