Sounds good and I love the red and black colors. there are two simple things to make a cheap squire better. I like the punch split pickup, more oomph than my other bass. The action will come high, use a small allen wrench to lower the action at the bridge. Also, the frets will have sharp edges like all cheaper fender style basses. All 200 dollar squieres will have this. Take a flat file(6 inches long or more), rub it at an angle(35 degree roughly) on the side of the neck and file the sides of the frets. You will feel the rough frets and see the metal flakes when you do it right. You can do multiple frets at a time. I had no experience and within an hour's worth of effort the sharp fret ends were much better and smooth.. you have to pay an extra 100 for a squire with better frets but a 6 dollar file can do the job. youtube "file sharp frets" its easy.Read full review

I bought this to learn how I would get along with a bass, and if worked out, I might spend up to $2,000 to get a "good" one. I was expecting it to need a large deal of detailing to be playable but it needed very little. The fretwork and neck in general are very nice. The nut is OK, but I'll replace it with bone @ first string change. I went through the basic setup procedure for string height and intonation. I could end the story here with a good bass and a good price,...but....I changed the pickups to get rid of a slight noise. and it worked.(DiMarzio 126) . At this point I see no need for a high dollar bass ,although ,overtime, I will refine a few things. The bridge works well but is now covered with an 'ashtray', and a pickup cover is in place, plus a finger rest. With the next string set I will drill for a 'through body' string holes(likely a waste of time). The tuning has been very stable and the tuning machines work well, but I don't mind buying Schallers(or whatever) because it has become a great player. And now I've ordered a case that cost as much as the bass ! I see nothing to gain in going up to higher models...as my needs change, I will change this bass.Read full review

This is a really nice bass guitar for the money. The Neck has a beautiful rosewood fingerboard and the body is a flawless black.

I usually dont play Fender Basses but I picked this one up for a reasonable price and was struck buy the sound and playability of it. For a Lower end Fender. I dont really see any difference in the more expensive models. I would change the pick-up if I were going to use it as a primary bass but overall it sounds great as -is! Good choice for someone who is not sure if they want to be a bassist or not! You CANNOT go wrong for the money!
Bought this to have fun customizing and testing modification skills, on a more affordable budget. Very happy with overall quality and a good bass to start playing with.
