I enjoyed this film as I am a great fan of Tom Hanks (who isn't?). But I just found the film too long, Hanks plays a man who gets stuck in JFK as he no longer has a country, he learns about the airport, himself and love. A good comedy film.
Tom Hanks gives one of his finest performances in this sentimental, whimsical comedy from Steven Spielberg. Hanks plays a naive East European who becomes smothered in red tape when his country's government is overthrown in a coup, making his passport and visa valueless. Stuck at JFK airport, New York, until the situation clears, the Hanks character discovers various ingenious ways to survive his ordeal and is befriended by airport employees - including a ditzy air stewardess (Catherine Zeta-Jones in one of her best roles). Spielberg's apparent conviction that an international airport is a microcosm of society as a whole does not really stand up, and the sentimentality becomes laboured as the film progresses. But full marks to Tom Hanks for his memorable characterisation.
I had high hopes for this film but it failed to live up to expectations. Tom Hanks gave his worst performance that I have ever seen but it did improve nearer the end but that did not excuse the rest of it. The film in general was OK but had a typical Hollywood style ending, which the brits do not always appreciate. It was also quite slow in places but it have some good points, such as Toms' skills in building. Overall, it was OK but I wont be watching it again.
good all round family film,Tom Hanks, and Catherine Zeta-jones, balance well together, which was the reason for buying, clever comedy.A "STEVEN SPIELBURG" film
