I have to admit that I was around in 1957 and old enough (just) to appreciate the rock'n'roll music that, by then, had swept all before it, musically. It is, therefore, a slice of my history. This pair of albums from the series “The London American Story” are two of the best – but that's only my opinion. On it there are many songs I remember very well, some I had forgotten and some that I honestly don't remember ever hearing before. Fifty tracks, many of which have been covered by many artists over the ensuing 50 years, which shows that the music was, and still is, great. Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis – even Slim Whitman - are all here, and many more, too. Some of the tracks were even re-recorded by the original artists in later years and re-released to become huge hits, maybe for the second time but those here are, almost exclusively, the originals. Being fairly picky regarding music from the past I have not bought, and will not buy, the whole London American Story series. This is simply because some of the other years' albums do not appeal so greatly to me – it's a personal preference thing - and there are too few of my "likes" on some of the albums covering other years. If you want to know what American pop music from 1957 was really about, start here. Small wonder it took the UK by storm. From Patience and Prudence to Chuck Berry it's all here – and excellent it is, too. There is not one track on these CDs that I truly dislike and very many I really love. These two albums will give me hours of pleasure, and I thoroughly recommend them to everyone whether, like me, you're of that time or simply interested in music from that time. Nostalgia as it really was. Great.Read full review
