Im doing up my every day car mazda mx5 mk1 1990 car. One in five nuts or bolts seem to snap off or take hours to undo. This tap and die set is very easy to use i recut at least 6 holes and freshen up loads on rusty bolts. The tap is one thing not 100% it very hard to do up tight and came loose when usibg the tap a couple of times. But for the money it done everything i wanted it to do. I have no trouble recommending it for this type of project.

This set has a reasonable range to it. each size has 3 taps a starter, mid and plug tap they thread well into mild steel and aluminuim leaving a clean and accurate thread. The dies are solid and also cut well, however as the dies are not spilt and cant be opened to enable a starter thread to be cut. It's easy to start the thread off parallel. the holders are a low quailty materials and the fit and finish is not very good. the tap holder clamp is loose in the screw adjustment and comes loose all the time. the die holder has 5 locking screws in it clearly not designed for the dies in the set. Over all I would rate this set as a hobby set, It's good for the price but dont expect it to last very long if you are a heavy user.

I'm new to tapping and dying (is that the right verb). I needed to tap some M3, M4 and M5 holes in aluminium extrusion. After researching the correct drill bit diameters the tapping procedure was straight forward, there is a technique to it (google it) but it would probably follow common sense. The quality of the bits seem very good, no blunting occurred, clean the chips out and the action is very smooth. The only addition I would make to this kit is adding a small tensioning bar to tighten the tap handle adjustment which has a habit of coming loose. I haven't used the dies, so can't comment, nor can I comment on it's suitability for harder materials such as steel (hence my four star rating) - but overall I would recommend this, it's a great bit of kit.

This is a good quality set for the price and works well. Drilling and tapping a hole or cutting a thread needs patience and a bit of skill for the deeper hole cuts, so its good, when the time comes to cut the thread, there are three taps for each thread cut, as is required. This set is simple and well presented in a nice "old fashioned" tin box and this allows for easy control and storage. The taps and dies cut a good and accurate thread so I enjoyed working with this set!
