During the last fifteen years, the number of wind turbines in Europe has increased dramatically but at a complete height of 110 metres, wind turbines present a challenge at all stages of transport. This programme has been produced to document what a skilled procedure this is for all involved. This programme takes a detailed look at the difficulties of loading and transporting the column sections, nacelles and delicate vanes. In particular, it gives detailed coverage of the innovative Mega Windmill transporter designed by the Dutch company Nooteboom. Filmed in Denmark, Portugal, Holland and Germany, the programme follows the road journey of two turbines and their teams to wind farms in the mountains, and shows how they contend with obstacles on the way. Then it deals with the painstaking work of unloading, lifting and assembly.
